The Champions League play-off second leg between Juventus and Galatasaray at Allianz Stadium concluded with intense drama, yet the spotlight remained on Lloyd Kelly’s contentious red card. This turning point impacted the game’s flow and ignited public controversy.

Facing a tough deficit after losing 2-5 in the first leg, Juventus needed an extraordinary comeback. Luciano Spalletti’s squad started positively when Manuel Locatelli successfully converted a penalty just before halftime, renewing hope for the Turin side.

However, the turning point came early in the second half. During an aerial challenge with Baris Yilmaz, Kelly accidentally stepped on his opponent’s heel as both jumped. Initially, referee Joao Pinheiro showed a yellow card. Notably, this was already Kelly’s second yellow. After consulting VAR, he upgraded the sanction to a direct red card, judging the tackle to be dangerous.

The 27-year-old defender looked stunned, holding his head in frustration and repeatedly pleading with the referee. Upon leaving the field, he clearly expressed his anger by forcefully kicking the tunnel wall leading to the dressing room—an image that vividly reflected his frustration over the controversial decision.

Playing with one less man, Juventus faced extreme difficulties. Nevertheless, they fought bravely. Late goals from Federico Gatti and Weston McKennie helped the "Old Lady" level the score within 90 minutes, pushing the game into extra time. However, Galatasaray capitalized on their numerical advantage. Victor Osimhen scored the decisive goal before Yilmaz sealed a 7-5 aggregate victory for the Turkish side.
