Supercomputer predicts Serie A 2026/27 results: A striking number!

The Opta supercomputer has simulated 10,000 scenarios before the 2026/27 Serie A campaign, offering notable forecasts for the championship, Champions League spots, and the drop zone.

Serie A 2026/27 will officially kick off on August 22. Before the opening round, Opta Analyst released results from 10,000 simulations of the season using a supercomputer, with numbers suggesting that the competition at the top could be highly unpredictable.

Inter stands out in the Scudetto race

The defending champions Inter Milan continue to be ranked first by Opta with a 35.1% chance of retaining the Scudetto, significantly higher than the rest of the field.

Inter just completed a successful first season under Cristian Chivu, winning a domestic double. The Milan club claimed the Serie A title with an 11-point margin, scored the most goals in the league (89), and conceded only 35 times.

Their strength was further reinforced by John Stones, who arrived on a free transfer after leaving Manchester City. The experience of the center-back, who won numerous titles in England, is expected to help Chivu maintain defensive stability.

However, the biggest surprise lies behind Inter. Como is given a 13.6% chance of winning the title by Opta, the second highest in the league, even slightly ahead of Roma (12.7%) and Juventus (11.4%).

Cesc Fabregas's team just concluded a historic season by securing their first Champions League berth. Keeping Nico Paz for at least another season further boosts Como's valuation. The midfielder contributed directly to 18 goals in Serie A last season, with 12 goals and 6 assists.

Roma is just behind with 12.7%. Gian Piero Gasperini led the capital club back to the Champions League and surpassed the 70-point mark last season. Extending Paulo Dybala's contract and making Donyell Malen's move permanent continue to strengthen the Giallorossi's ambitions.

Juventus has a 11.4% chance of winning the title, while Napoli (7.5%) and Atalanta (6.8%) are in the chasing pack.

Fierce competition for Champions League spots

The race for Champions League qualification is also expected to be extremely tight.

Inter has a 76% chance of finishing in the top four, far ahead of the rest. Roma is next with about 50%, while Como has 49.3% and Juventus 47.8%.

Notably, Napoli is only given a 38.4% chance of ending the season in the top four despite appointing Massimiliano Allegri. One of the determining factors for the Naples side will be Kevin De Bruyne's fitness, after the Belgian midfielder missed most of last season due to a thigh injury.

Atalanta is given a 34.9% chance of making the top four under Maurizio Sarri's guidance. Bologna (14.5%) and Lazio (14.2%) are among the teams that could spring surprises.

Meanwhile, AC Milan is not among the top four teams rated highest. Despite appointing former Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim and breaking the club's transfer record to sign Gonçalo Ramos from PSG, the Rossoneri only have a 30.7% chance of playing in the Champions League.

Which three teams are most likely to be relegated?

At the other end of the table, Opta identifies Monza as the most endangered team.

The Serie A newcomer has a 42.9% chance of relegation, the highest among the 20 teams.

Two other teams on alert are Lecce (34.3%) and Venezia (33.7%). Parma also has a significant relegation risk at 26.4%, followed by Cagliari (24.9%) and Genoa (19.4%).

However, all figures from the Opta supercomputer are still only a reference before the first ball is kicked. With numerous coaching changes, the rise of teams like Como, and the narrowing gap between the competitive groups, the 2026/27 Serie A season promises to be an exciting and unpredictable campaign until the final rounds
