Liverpool defeats Como; £60 million newcomer immediately causes a stir at Anfield

Liverpool finished their pre-season preparations with a 2-0 triumph over Como at Anfield. This was the second meeting between the two sides on the same day, following an earlier closed-door match that ended 0-0. In the evening encounter, Cody Gakpo and new recruit Jeremy Jacquet both got on the scoresheet.

Liverpool controlled the game well and created numerous chances from the outset. Alexander Isak hit the post, while Dominik Szoboszlai also had a shot off target. Notably, Jeremie Frimpong constantly applied pressure with his pace and set up Gakpo for the opener in the 23rd minute. Later, Jacquet doubled the lead from a Gakpo assist in the 44th minute.

Jacquet was one of the standout players in the first half, playing solidly alongside captain Virgil van Dijk. The young center-back's ability in duels and defense even drew applause from the Kop supporters. His goal in the 43rd minute only added to the impressive display of the £60 million signing, even though it was just a friendly.

In the second half, Liverpool brought on Ronald Araujo to replace Jacquet, testing the partnership between the Uruguayan newcomer and Van Dijk. Como played more proactively and forced Alisson into a few notable saves, but Liverpool maintained their balance. Manager Iraola then made further substitutions, bringing on Lewis Koumas, Trey Nyoni, and Victor Munoz.

The match slowed down towards the end as Liverpool deliberately protected their advantage. Araujo drew attention with a decisive sliding tackle outside the final third and pressed actively in midfield. Isak was substituted in the last 10 minutes, making way for Will Wright, as Liverpool's focus shifted to preserving the scoreline.

Como failed to find a response and accepted a 0-2 defeat. Despite the loss, Cesc Fabregas's side were not outclassed, similar to their performance against Arsenal. For Liverpool, the win helps Iraola's men complete their pre-season campaign in a positive state before they open the Premier League season against Newcastle on August 23.
