Manchester United has just received a positive signal ahead of the Premier League as Benjamin Sesko returns to training. He could be registered for the season opener if his recovery goes smoothly.

Manchester United unexpectedly receives a positive signal on the attack ahead of the Premier League as Benjamin Sesko has returned to training on the pitch with teammates and could feature in the season opener.

According to journalist Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic, MU actually did not expect Sesko to return in time for the friendly match against AC Milan. The Slovenian striker's absence from the squad on Saturday was therefore not too surprising, although he has not played any minutes for the Red Devils during the pre-season period.

Sesko has returned to training on the pitch

The notable thing is Sesko's current condition. Whitwell revealed that the striker has started training on the pitch with teammates for a few sessions. This is seen as a positive signal, showing that the Slovenian's recovery is progressing better: "Sesko's injury has lasted longer than expected, although I understand he has now trained with teammates for a few sessions. I think it would be odd if he were thrown straight into the matchday squad without having played any pre-season friendlies."

However, MU still needs to be cautious. Sesko has not played any match in the pre-season, so immediately putting him in the starting lineup when the Premier League begins is an unlikely scenario.

Sesko is expected to become one of MU's key attacking threats

According to Whitwell, the current expectation is that Sesko can start being registered for matches when the new season officially begins. If he travels with the team to face Hull City, the 22-year-old striker will likely only appear for a short period from the bench.

The fact that Sesko has started training again brings significant good news to the attack the Red Devils. If he is not yet at peak fitness, Bryan Mbeumo will likely be used in the highest position upfront in the Premier League opener.

MU has more options for the attack ahead of the Premier League

Besides Sesko, MU still has a few injury cases to monitor. Mason Mount continues to receive treatment for a foot injury suffered in the match against Paris Saint-Germain. Karl Darlow, Tom Heaton, Manuel Ugarte, and Matthijs de Ligt have also not fully returned.

Although it is not certain that Sesko will play in the opener, the Slovenian striker's return to training with teammates is still a positive signal. MU fans have more reason to look forward to his appearance when the Premier League officially begins.
