Chelsea sets deadline for Enzo Fernandez, Man City boss responds immediately

Manchester City will not meet the 5pm deadline that Chelsea has imposed for sending a £120 million offer regarding midfielder Enzo Fernandez.

New Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca confirmed that the club will not carry out any signings today.

Meanwhile, Rodri has returned to the training ground for pre-season checks after undergoing back surgery. Barcelona is working hard to finalize a deal worth over £60 million for the Spain captain, who had a conversation with his manager on Friday.

Enzo Fernandez wants to move to the Etihad Stadium this month, while Chelsea insists that his future must be resolved before the weekend.

Maresca said: "Honestly, not today. I don't think we'll do anything today."

This statement also opens the possibility that Manchester City will continue to part ways with some stars this month.

Tijjani Reijnders is finalizing the last procedures to transfer to Saudi Arabia's Al Qadsiah for a fee of £52 million, while Savinho wants to join Tottenham.

Maresca, who is set to lead Manchester City in their first official match on Sunday against Arsenal in the Community Shield, also hinted that more players will leave the club in the coming weeks.

He said: "We'll see what happens with some other cases. There is a change happening right now. We are at a point where players who have been here for many years have left, or perhaps some others may also leave."

"That means there is a change. We will try to do our best. When the transfer window closes, we need to be able to find solutions for the team as quickly as possible," the Man City manager added.

The Italian manager refused to discuss players from other clubs. He stated: "I don't think it's good for people from other clubs to talk about our players," after a summer of much speculation regarding Rodri in Spain.

Reijnders decided to seek other opportunities after not being a regular starter last season, and Maresca believes that some other players are in a similar situation.

He said: "They all train every day, they all take part in training every day, and on weekends everyone wants to play."

"When they don't play, they struggle to understand or see the reason why. I can understand that after a season, some of them want to play a little more," Maresca declared.

"It's very difficult to convince players when they have already made their own decision. You need to change their minds, but that's not always easy," the Man City manager asserted. He added: "Tijjani's situation is similar to James Trafford and some other players. But I think when the club, the player, and the manager all share the same view that the best decision for the player might be to leave, then you have to let them go."
