Overseas Vietnamese midfielder joins Bac Ninh FC

Bac Ninh FC has officially announced the acquisition of Canadian-Vietnamese midfielder Pierre Lamothe, further enhancing their roster for the 2026/27 V.League campaign.

Pierre Lamothe was born on September 18, 1997, to a Canadian father and a Vietnamese mother. Before moving to Vietnam to play, the midfielder had several years of professional experience in Canada, representing FC Montréal, HFX Wanderers, and Pacific FC. He was also called up to the Canadian U20 national team.

Lamothe began his journey in Vietnam in the 2023/24 season, playing for Quang Nam, Hanoi FC, and SHB Da Nang. His time in the V.League helped the Canadian-Vietnamese player gain more experience and adapt to the Vietnamese football environment.

The arrival of Pierre Lamothe is part of Bac Ninh's strong squad overhaul after the club earned promotion to the V.League for the 2026/27 season. Following the 2025/26 campaign, the team from the Kinh Bac region parted ways with 13 players at once, including key figures such as goalkeeper Huynh Tuan Linh, defenders Truong Van Thiet, Nguyen Thanh Long, and attacking players like Ha Duc Chinh, Bruno Cunha, and Kaina Nunes.

In the opposite direction, Bac Ninh FC has been continuously bringing in new players. The club first added Brazilian midfielder Vitor Hugo Rosa Nascimento (Vitao), who just won the 2025/26 V.League title, and then recruited center-back Rafael Santos de Sousa and striker Brenner Marlos.

Bac Ninh subsequently strengthened their domestic roster with Nguyen Chinh Dang, Nguyen Van Viet, Nguyen Duy Duong, and Le Thang Long. Midfielders Luong Hoang Nam and Le Tien Anh were also brought in to reinforce the midfield line.

In the goalkeeper position, the V.League newcomers signed Nguyen Van Cong and Duong Tung Lam, significantly adding experience to the goal after bidding farewell to Huynh Tuan Linh. In addition to player acquisitions, Bac Ninh also retained key members of the existing squad, with defender Mai Xuan Quyet recently extending his contract until 2029.

The addition of Pierre Lamothe gives Bac Ninh FC another option in midfield alongside new arrivals like Luong Hoang Nam and Le Tien Anh. With his experience playing in Canada and several seasons acclimating to Vietnamese football, the 28-year-old midfielder is expected to quickly integrate into his new team.

As of August 14, Bac Ninh FC has shown a significant transformation in their squad as they prepare for their debut season in the V.League.

A series of new contracts across all three lines indicates that the Kinh Bac club is not only aiming to adapt to the highest level of Vietnamese football but also wants to build a squad with sufficient depth and competitiveness for the 2026/27 season.
