Manchester United officially announces the sale of their third summer transfer window player, with transfer fee details revealed! Carrick demands two more new signings

Manchester United officially announced on Thursday that academy winger Ethan Williams has permanently joined League One side Peterborough United for a "sizeable undisclosed fee." The 20-year-old took part in the club's pre-season friendlies this summer and scored in the 5-0 victory over Rosenborg.

Although United did not disclose the transfer fee details, British media revealed that the fixed transfer fee for the youngster is only £750,000. However, the Red Devils secured a 50% sell-on clause, a buy-back clause, and other future bonus options.

Williams never started for Manchester United's first team; he was loaned out multiple times, including to League Two side Cheltenham Town and last season to Falkirk in the Scottish Premiership, where he made 22 appearances. After joining Peterborough United, he was awarded the number 10 jersey.

Peterborough United's new manager, Luke Williams, said: "Ethan is a player who can provide us with more options on the wing. He is agile, direct in his play, and can create threats. I'm looking forward to working with him."

Williams also issued a farewell statement to Manchester United: "I had a great time there, and leaving a place like United is always difficult. But in a career, there are times when you have to make tough decisions to improve yourself. Peterborough United is known for helping young players develop."

Interestingly, Williams' uncle, Alex Williams, is a Manchester City legend. In 1980, Alex became the first black goalkeeper to play in the top-flight English First Division, making history. He played for City until 1985, making 125 appearances.

Williams is the third player sold by Manchester United this summer. Danish international Højlund is not counted, as his permanent €44 million move to Napoli was agreed upon last year, with the Serie A side activating the mandatory buyout clause after qualifying for the Champions League.

During this summer's transfer window, the only player successfully sold by Manchester United was center-back Taylor Frederiksen, in a "internal deal" because the buyer, Swiss side Lausanne-Sport, is a satellite club of owner Jim Ratcliffe.

The only truly sold player before was 22-year-old goalkeeper Radek Vítek, who joined Championship side Middlesbrough for a fixed fee of £8 million. If Middlesbrough are promoted to the Premier League and Vítek plays more than 60% of matches, United could receive an additional £6 million in bonuses, totaling £14 million.

Players like Rashford and Ugarte, whom United wanted to offload, had to stay this summer for various reasons, affecting the club's rebuilding process through purchases. United has officially announced six signings, but only three are first-team players: André Santos for £50 million, Tielemans for £35 million, and free agent goalkeeper Karl Darlow. The other half are youngsters under 20.

Carrick publicly stated this week that he hopes to bring in two more players, possibly a left-back and another midfielder. The United manager explained: "I think from an overall squad perspective, we have achieved a good balance. But of course, we still want more options. We want more, we must keep pushing for more. There are one or two areas where we want to improve, and we believe it's possible."

However, Carrick also acknowledged that signings must meet certain conditions. "But that said, it has to be a signing that makes us better and strengthens the team, whether by improving quality or adding depth. That's something we have to deal with. It's quite obvious."
