Manchester United is reported to have included a special condition in the transfer of Altay Bayindir to Celta Vigo, intended to ease the goalkeeper's exit from Old Trafford.

Manchester United has reached an agreement with Celta Vigo to let Altay Bayindir leave the club on loan for the 2026/27 season, while also inserting a unique clause in the contract that benefits all parties involved.

The Turkish goalkeeper is considered no longer part of manager Michael Carrick's long-term plans after Man Utd added more personnel in the goalkeeping position. Bayindir will join Celta Vigo on a season-long loan, with a buy option worth around £3.5 million at the end of the loan period.

Notably, Celta Vigo's sporting director, Marco Garces, revealed that Man Utd included a rare clause in the contract. Accordingly, the loan fee the Spanish club must pay will decrease depending on the number of matches Bayindir plays.

The departure of Bayindir is part of MU's squad restructuring plan

“If there is a loan payment, it will be reduced based on the number of games he plays. We have a purchase option, and Manchester United will also cover part of his salary,”Garces shared.

This clause shows that Man Utd wants to speed up Bayindir's departure rather than keeping him for another season. The 28-year-old goalkeeper is now in the final year of his contract with Old Trafford, although the club still has the option to trigger a 12-month extension.

Bayindir was once expected to become Man Utd's number one choice. At the start of last season, he was given a starting opportunity by manager Ruben Amorim to replace Andre Onana. However, after a 1-3 defeat to Sunderland, the Turkish goalkeeper lost his place to Senne Lammens and was unable to return to the starting lineup.

The arrival of Lammens, along with Karl Darlow and Tom Heaton, further narrowed Bayindir's chances of competing. Therefore, moving to Celta Vigo is seen as a suitable solution for him to find more regular playing time.

At the Spanish club, Bayindir will have to compete with Ionut Radu, who had an impressive performance with 10 clean sheets in 38 appearances in La Liga last season. However, Celta's participation in the Europa League this season could give the Turkish goalkeeper more opportunities to play.

For Man Utd, letting Bayindir go helps the club reduce the wage bill and free up space in the squad. After returning to the Champions League under Carrick, the "Red Devils" are still actively completing their squad and aiming to add more positions before the new season.

Coach Carrick once admitted that MU is not ready to stop in the transfer market: “We want more, we need more. We are always looking at how to achieve that and will continue to try.”
