Moving to the Principality Stadium means the Community Shield will return to Cardiff for the first time since 2006. During the period when Wembley was being rebuilt, the Welsh stadium hosted the Community Shield six times between 2001 and 2006.

The Principality Stadium has a capacity of over 74,000 spectators and previously served as the venue for numerous major English football matches while the old Wembley was being demolished and the new Wembley was not yet completed.
