Arteta's statement stirs up Emirates with news about Arsenal's new signing

Mikel Arteta confirms Arsenal are still hunting for new signings, but his warning about the market has fans especially curious as the final stretch of summer approaches.

Arsenal have not closed the transfer window yet. Right after a 1-1 draw with Como followed by a 4-3 penalty shootout win, manager Mikel Arteta confirmed the team is actively seeking additional recruits, though he admitted that the number of players truly capable of upgrading a Premier League champion is limited.

Arteta said: “We still have things we want to do, because whenever there is an opportunity to improve the squad, add more quality and depth, we need to do it. We are actively trying. The issue in the market is that things don't depend solely on you, and we understand that very well.”

The Spanish manager continued: “The approach, the will, and the desire of the club are unquestionable. We want to try to do it. But we cannot promise success, because it doesn't depend only on us.”

Arteta's statement came as Arsenal had just completed the £75 million deal for Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle. The Brazilian midfielder came on after halftime against Como and successfully converted his penalty in the shootout. It was also Bruno's debut at the Emirates, just days before the Community Shield clash with Manchester City.

However, Arsenal still want to add firepower. According to Sky Sports, the London club are interested in Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid and Bradley Barcola of Paris Saint-Germain. These are both major targets, so the possibility of Arsenal pursuing them until the final stage of the transfer window cannot be ruled out.

The Gunners had previously failed to make progress with Vinicius Junior, who just extended his contract with Real Madrid until 2032. Another target, Morgan Rogers, also left Aston Villa to join Chelsea. These two developments further narrow the pool of available high-caliber attacking players.

Arteta admitted: “I think to improve the very small margins, there are very few players on the market right now who can do that and bring that to the club. But again, we are actively looking to improve and will try.”

When asked whether a blockbuster signing could affect the wage structure, Arteta deferred the decision to sporting director Andrea Berta and the board. With the transfer window still open, the final days of summer at the Emirates could yet see another deal capable of transforming the attack's profile.
